Well, I spent about 11 hours in the shop today making parts, we still have a couple more to do, so as soon as I get out of school tomorrow I will be heading over to the shop to help one of the mentors, Mr.Morrison bust some more parts out. But the good news is, WE GOT SOME SHEET METAL! I'm sooo excited! I drove over to the sheet metal sponsor with another student to pick the stuff up around 7 and we were just able to sort everything and put some bolts in. We're still missing about half the metal, but that should all be coming in tomorrow. The powder coater is possibly looking out of the question, due to the fact that he wouldn't be able to get parts back to us until Sunday, so we might just be painting the parts ourselves, which is no biggy, just a little less pretty. Here are all the pictures I took today!
| Intake rollers and other misc. parts! |
| Sheet metal hot off the bender! |
| About half of what we need. |
| Half assembled practice bot frame. |
We're still waiting on gear boxes, front members, outside frame rails, and the laser cut upper half from our other sponsor. Those are all looking like they'll be here tomorrow around 5 so we can sort and either bring it to the powder coater if they can do it, or starting to prep and paint the competition parts and assembling the two halves of the practice robot.
Another thing I'd like to mention is how dedicated GUS' mentors are. We had two mentors in the shop with me from about 10 in the morning till 9 at night, just busting out parts and enjoying the build! They are truly an inspiration for me, they motivate me to work a little harder and give as much back as I can. Mr.Dutra and Mr.Morrison are two of the most dedicated mentors I know, I can't thank them enough for their work, and I just hope there is some way I can repay them once I graduate. Or at least come back and try to fill their place once they retire, although I don't think anyone ever really retires from GUS, we have a saying, "You can leave GUS, but GUS will never leave you!" So thank you Mr.Morrison and Mr.Dutra, your work has changed my life, and I owe you both a lot for that!
